Grade 4 - Math

6-week Course Outline

Overview: Each class will include a math fact warmup, individual instruction, and an interactive lesson based around the core concept of the week. Math vocabulary, word problem solving strategies, and problem solving skills will be incorporated into each lesson. The topics for each week bridge the gap between grade levels and introduce upcoming grade-level content.

Week 1

Place Value - Students will review how to identify place value names, understand what each place value represents, and how to read and write numbers using numerals, number names, and expanded form.

Week 2

Addition and Subtraction - Students will learn to add and subtract multi-digit numbers with carryover. Students will build accuracy and fluency using the standard algorithms. Students will also review place value concepts from last week and how to compare numbers using <, >, and =.

Week 3

Multiplication - Students will learn how to multiply multi-digit numbers that end in zero and how to multiply multi-digit numbers using the area model.

Week 4

Division - Students will learn how to use multiplication facts to solve division equations and how to solve division equations using long division.

Week 5

Fractions - Students will learn vocabulary related to fractions, how to find equivalent fractions, and how to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers.

Week 6

Deep Dive! - During our last session we will dive deeper into one of the core concepts covered during the first 5 sessions. The content and lesson activities will be individualized to the group of learners in order to best support their skill development.
