Summer Success Program
Grade 1 - Math

6-week Course Outline

Overview: During our 6 weeks we will review and practice essential 1st grade skills to either help prepare or refresh students for the upcoming school year. Each session will include an interactive lesson, fun games, and resources to continue the learning throughout this summer.

Week 1

Addition Strategies - Students will use addition within 20 to solve one-step problems.

Week 2

Subtraction Strategies - Students will use subtraction within 20 to solve one-step problems.

Week 3

Place Value - Students will understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.

Week 4

Time - Students will tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks. Develop an understanding of common terms, such as, but not limited to, o’clock and half past

Week 5

Money - Students will recognize and identify coins (penny, nickel, dime, and quarter) and their value and use the cent symbol (¢) appropriately.

Week 6

Shapes - Students will compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
